It was my birthday.
I was drunk, a little.
Shut up.
Remember how I mentioned a little bit ago that someone was playing with my latest extravagance? I never confessed what it was, did I?
This is the absolute evidence that I am in fact not a spinner (which I don't know how to do anyway), not a knitter (although I really, really like the knitting) but in fact a Yarn Collector.
Creating Text(iles) posted yesterday that the stash will demonstrate its usefulness by allowing her to bridge the lean times with no fiber interruption. Which made me laugh because I've been justifying my stash by saying that some changes might be coming that will leave me without yarn buying income and I need to save up for the long cold winter. Like a squirrel. With a wool fetish.
But really, while this is true, it is not the reason. The reason is that I like yarn.
So, um, see....I wanted to buy a Virtual Yarns color card. Because A.S designs are amazingly swoon-worthy and I suspected the yarns were too and a computer monitor is no place to see that and...oh, hell, I just wanted a set.
But they were out of them. And their customer service person mentioned to me that the cost of the 2-ply is really quite modest and that for a very nominal fee I could buy 5 or 6 skeins of the colors I was considering and look them over in person.
Not ideal, mind you, but a good notion.
Spend a few days thinking it over, thinking about what I want for the hypothetical sweater kit I am hypothetically thinking about getting to make for my nephew.
Go out with friends to celebrate 36th anniversary of birth. Enjoy self thoroughly.
Come home.
Check email. Re-read missive from customer service. See purse sitting on table. Take purse, take wallet, remove card, load up basket with one of every color of Hebridean 2-ply, enter relevant data, press order, go to bed.
Less then a week later, be so distant from this moment that you are genuinely shocked to see this large box from Scotland awaiting you at the post office.
Oops.
Would you care to see the contents? No? Alright then, I'll just put it away....Oh, you do want to see it. OK.
dah, na, na, nah...
dah, na, na, nah....
I just wish I could have come up with some decent sunlight to photograph it in. Although I am slightly embarrassed by my gluttony, I am glad I did this. You have no concept until you see them in person - the soft, light, lofty spin is remarkable as are the multi-toned colors. It is certainly the softest plain wool I've ever touched and in person the colors I am drawn to in no way resemble the colors I would have picked on screen.

Happy belated birthday!!

I didn't know it was your birthday. Did I know youwere even a Gemini? Of course, how could you be so charming and funny and self-deprecating and NOT be Gemini.
Happy Birthday!

What delicious yarn. You will be happy to know that spinning does very little to sublimate one's yarn lust. And then there are roving lusts.
Have a good time with Cassie. I envy your nearness to one another.

The merry merry month of May is getting merrier...and with a stash-builder like that, I'd go for your web cam over "Julie's" any day of the week.
Did you post earlier that it was your birthday, and I missed it, or was I psychically intuiting that your birthday is most likely right near mine? In any case, that is some gorgeous present there...I think I'd have to take a week off just to stare at it and grin stupidly. And invite others to come over and stare at it and grin stupidly with me. I wouldn't even need a bottle of Santenay for that...
Happy anniversary of your birth, oh younger, much taller, and clearly-damned-good-with-a-Visa Yarn Collector :-)

Happy Birthday (belatedly).
May I please come over and roll in your bed of scottish yarn?

Oh my.
Speechless.
You do know how to show a girl a good time, even if that girl is yourself.
Brava!

Heck, we could all just sit outside in your garden and run our hands over the new yarns! Who's going to notice the fence with THAT lovely stuff in our laps?

you should definitely read 'the Volcano lover', at least the part about being a collector.
the latest addition to your collection leaves me speechless in amazement!

wow, those look so beauitful! and all laid out like that, dozens and dozens of skeins, all different colors.. it brings a tear to a girl's eye ;) what a great gift for yourself!

There is no better gift to oneself than the best wool on the planet! I have two kits of VY wool. One is the Seaweed Shawl (I'm going to knit on it soon) and Rosarie is in my stash, too. I got the color cards some time ago, but grrl...you did it right!

I must say the words of a previous commenter "envy" and "box" and "green" (mine own) flash through my mind as I look at the screen. Oh my god I wish I could do that. Happy Birthday - I hope the yarn is as fun to play with as I think it will be. I'll be thinking about you all day - envious.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with that--think of the fabulous thing you can make with all that yarn! And you could also provide a valuable public service by snipping off little pieces of each skein so that other people (ahem) can see them in person (ahem).
There's some inappropriate thing I can say involving the words "envy" and "box" but...do we know each other well enough yet?

Great job! Very impressive. That website is something of a fairy tale isn't it - and I love the project you're thinking about for your nephew.
Happy Birthday by the way! Man, you do know how to celebrate!

Oh gawd, the colors, the profusion, the lushness, the indulgence! What a great move. There must be a crossed wire with the food gene, that makes such plentitude truly desirable.

Lord, I love the colors that woman thinks up. While I miss dreadfully the fabled Scottish Heather, I'll admit I love the new yarns just as much.
Excellent box!
Is she still including little shells or rocks from the Isles?

Well, actually, as I recall... you had brunch with me that day, no? (evil cackle) See, I'm a bad influence even after I leave.
The spinning part - you are a spinner. You just haven't started yet.

Wow! Happy Birthday, I hope that you aren't paying to much for enjoying it.
